EVENT OVERVIEW

Grab your pails and your shovels and come on down to the beach! Karma Krew, Inc. is hosting a community-wide Sand Sculpting Contest in Jupiter, Florida as a fundraiser to bring mind-body wellness programs to abused and neglected children in shelters. The first annual Karma Kastles Competition and Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, December 1st , 2007 from 9 AM ? 4 PM (rain date Sunday, December 2nd). This beginner-friendly competition is designed to bring together local businesses, families, corporations, and groups of friends for a day at the beach to test their sand skills and support a great cause.

Funds are raised by offering various sized sandlots to teams ranging from 4 people to 20 people. Participating teams choose to compete in one of seven different theme categories. Winners in each category compete against other teams in their sandlot-size division to receive the Karma Kup and a host of other fabulous prizes. Entries will be judged on qualities such as technical difficulty, originality, and creative use of sand. The judging panel will consist of Karma Krew representatives, special guest judges from area children?s shelters (including children), other local celebrities, and experienced sand sculptor experts.

Similar to a walk-a-thon, each team will also be enrolled in a competition for best fundraising team. Teams are required to register with a minimum donation (determined by sandlot size) but are also encouraged to secure additional pledges to raise more funds for the cause. Winners of the fundraising competition will also receive special award prizes from competition sponsors. Karma Krew hopes to raise over $250,000 for the cause and begin implementing long-term yoga programs in children?s shelters beginning next year.

An official Awards Ceremony will happen at 2p.m. at Ocean Cay Park in Jupiter. In addition to the competition, free yoga classes for adults and children, drum circles, face-painting, and other family fun will be happening on the beach throughout the day. Select vendor tables for food and drink refreshments and a silent auction will also be part of the day. The beach extravaganza will close with a special Karma Kastles Demolition Derby where each team returns their sculpture back to the elements of nature as we flatten out the beach to its pre-competition state?.a built-in yoga lesson on impermanence!

Who does this Fundraiser benefit?

Karma Kastles is an event designed to bring much needed support and awareness to the issue of child abuse and neglect. More specifically, this fundraiser was created to provide an exciting and innovative way for Florida residents, businesses, and others across the nation to help support Karma Krew's BIJA  program. This program is designed to bring an on-going and long-term yoga-based/ life-skills curriculum to abused and neglected children living in shelters. We are currently working with the Children?s Home Society in Florida to identify area shelters that will be part of the pilot testing phase. Once evaluated in Florida shelters, the program will continue to expand to other areas throughout the nation, helping hundreds of young children learn to cultivate their own inner resources so that they can heal from traumatic pasts and move forward with inner strength and confidence.

So, please take a moment to read on and find out how to get involved in Karma Kastles or make a donation for this cause. Every bit helps, and together we can start making a difference in securing a brighter future for all our children.
